Interview: Max Stolberg Dragonica Producer

ShareThis
Posted by Christophor Rick,

Max Stolberg took time out of his ultra busy schedule to pull me out of the pub and away from the Guinness tap long enough to do an interview. Luckily he got me early enough in the day that I was still competent enough to ask questions. (Ok that’s total fiction, we did the interview over email).

[GDN] What’s the driving force behind Dragonica? What’s the theme that the dev team is trying to adhere to?

[MS] From the very start, Barunson [Barunson Interactive Co] intended to create a game that is easy to play and that can be enjoyed by everybody. They chose a side-scrolling action game so that male and female players alike would be fascinated by the rich universe Barunson has created with Dragonica. During the 3 years of development so far, they added more and more content to finally create a unique game which combines retro side-scrolling action with up-to-date MMO features. The theme however remained the same: Let’s create a game that is fun and easily accessible but rich in content.

[GDN] What’s going to make Dragonica stand out from an already massively crowded MMO genre?

[MS] Dragonica is unique in its approach to form a hybrid MMO & action side-scrolling game. You’ll not only find all the normal MMO features including achievement system, housing, customizable characters, marriage system, pet system, guild and group PvP to just name a few. You’ll also find that Dragonica has tons of quests to complete and player skills you’ll love as they are just pure fun to watch and try. While this is nothing special to normal 360° MMOs it makes a side-scrolling game that combines quick action combos, jump & run aspects and a 3D depth & turn concept unique. Dragonica stands out because it is fun to play, fun to watch and just really rich in content.
