Mousepads are underrated. It’s that simple. Some people don’t even use them. Heck, they aren’t necessary half the time. So why bother, right?
Wrong. Bothering is the best thing any responsible gamer can do when it comes to their peripherals, mousepad included. Not using a mousepad is like not tying your shoes completely.
Razer has been making mousepads for some time now, but their latest, the Sphex, is for people who aren’t necessarily interested in cluttering their desks any further, but still want the benefit of a mousepad’s better traction control.
So what did Razer do? They made the Sphex is the thinnest mousepad we’ve ever seen. Slightly thicker than a piece of paper, the Sphex attaches neatly to any surface with its adhesive bottom surface, and peels off easily thanks to an ingeniously placed non-adhesive tab on the right side. So pull it off your table and wherever you want, whenever you want.
For a mid-size mousepad, the Sphex is great. It’s a solid gaming surface that tracked every mouse we tested (including a few non-Razer mice, like the Microsoft SideWinder X8 and Logitech G9). The best part is that it’s only $15, meaning now you have no excuse not to pick up a new mousepad. Longer across than up, anyone who plays at lower DPI settings may find this pad too small, but we had no problems using it for gaming.
If you’re in the market for a new mousepad, the Sphex is a great, affordable pad. It sits so low on the desk that it’s like it’s part of it, and for $15, it won’t even dent your wallet. And if you’ve already got a gaming grade mousepad, the Sphex is a great backup, or perhaps even an excellent gift for a friend. Regardless of your purchasing reason, getting a Sphex is a no brainer
