Jim Cook’s XBLA Commentary #10

Posted by Jim Cook,

First, the usual Marketplace info and other news.

Maintenance Finished: The ’one day maintenance’ last week turned out to take more like three days to fully resolve. While some things came on smoothly, the Marketplace had some problems. If you bought something last week and it didn’t actually download properly, check your Download History. It should show up there and you can re-download it for no additional cost.

Deal of the Week: Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix - Stop laughing at the name. This is a great 2D fighting game, and this week Gold members can get it for 800 points ($10) instead of 1200 ($15). That’s a fantastic deal, and I strongly urge you to pick this one up; it’s one of my favorite games on the system.

Arcade Release - Garou: Mark of the Wolves (800 points) - As Captain Falcon would say, "yehs!" This is one of the better 2D fighters on the Neo-Geo, and assuming it’s a competent port then it should be a great purchase on Xbox Live. I’ll let you know how it turns out very soon.

Arcade Release - Droplitz (800 points) - Atlus makes their XBLA debut with Droplitz, a puzzle game about connecting pipes to let liquid drops (the titular ’droplitz’) flow. If they reach a dead-end, they vaporize; lose too many and it’s game over for you. This could be interesting, and hopefully we’ll have a review done once the game’s available.

Next, the main topics: A look at MadBalls in Babo: Invasion, some help with Castle Crashers’ online play, and a few other small tidbits.
