Welcome to the glitz and glamour of PDC world championship darts 2009 where you get to step up to the ockey and test your accuracy and aim against some of the worlds finest. Does this latest installment of Britain’s favourite publican game really show any new potentialfrom previous versions of the franchise or would it be easier to walk down to your local to throw a few?
Although the game does come with six other tournaments including the German darts championship and the US open so even though the venue of your sporting greatness changes the game is pretty much always the same, step up to the ockey take your aim and throw. I will say that this is the only wii game I’ve come across so far where you really need to use the wrist strap provided if you value your TV as the guys at Oxygen really want you to feel like your throwing a real dart while playing the game. You hold your Wii Remote as though your almost holding a real dart. Holding the A button down with your index finger and releasing when you would let go of the dart, as in real life. This being a great transition from other formats where you rely on guess work of a floating dart around the board. There is an option to have some assistance on where your aiming on the board and this was a great help at first while you get used to the movement of throwing the dart.
The game offers a career mode which offers you the opportunity to create your own custom character based on you or you can choose one of the many familiar faces of darts that compete in tournaments. You can also choose to have an exhibition game which is a lot quicker if you and friends would like to compete against each other without too much glitz and glamour. Graphically this game does seem very shiny. There has been a lot of detail added to the movement of the players, the venues, and darts moving through the air. Even the sounds compliment the game with the darts impact on the board and the caller at the side of the ockey informing you of your scores. Nothing is overly annoying and it is very much like the real experience coming to your living room. well minus the dart wags screaming at you to win because they need a new wardrobe.
Overall this is a reasonable game but its not something I would personally go out and buy as its much more of an inviting game when your throwing real darts at a real board, but computer game wise this does offer a lot in the games revolution of the Wii. There are a few minor points
like no music on the option screens which kind of dulls down the game for me slightly. The party games mode can offer something different like around the clock and but I found that was really there so that you could practise your aim without loosing miserably. I’m sure if your an avid darts will love this latest instalment but for me it seemed slightly repetitive and a little under glitz.
