Lucidity Review (XBLA)

Posted by Christophor Rick, 40 days ago

Don’t let the subdued colors of the paletteLucidity, quiet soundtrack or paper dreamlike art style of this game lull you into a false sense of comfort. This is anything but your ordinary ho-hum affair.

In Lucidity you take on the role of Sofi who goes on a grand adventure. Whether all in the mind of the child or reality matters not, for the fantastic journey will have you so busy at times you won’t be able to ponder the more esoteric points of dream world versus real world.

Lucidity sees your character moving at a set speed from left to right in a 2D side-scrolling fashion. Your task as the player Lucidityis to make sure that Sofi arrives safely at the other end of each level. Along the way you’ll need to collect fireflies as they are the keys to opening further levels and proceeding through the story. Sure it’s the same gameplay through the whole game, but each level creates its own sense of uniqueness. If you go after the achievements that will even further diversify the gameplay experience.

What is the story? Well, I’ll leave that for you to discover as the game is truly worth the download price. It’s nothing less than what we’ve come to expect from the visual geniuses in the Lucasarts camp. The art style and quality give the entire game a dream-like feel to it but the puzzle-like levels will require brainpower as well as twitchy reactions. At 800 points it’s not on the cheap end of the XBLA spectrum, but neither are its quality & gaming experience.

Our Rating for Lucidity Review (XBLA)
6.0
Replay
You’ll certainly want to go back and get all the fireflies but to go back and play the entire game again at a later date is questionable.
9.5
Graphics
Excellent hand-drawn visuals that will draw you into the game.6
8.5
Sound
A dreamy soundtrack and completes the atmosphere set by the visuals
8.5
Gameplay
A new twist on the puzzle platformer genre. Just difficult enough to keep you coming back for more and not so much to make you toss the controller.

8.5
Overall
A well rounded game in almost all respects. Gameplay is a little repetitive, but still fun and challenging.
