Alright, I’m a football fan (soccer for the Americans) but I’m not a super fan which is what you would need to be in order to be really good at this game. Or you just have to have a good memory because it feels like a full 70% of the questions pertain to the same players and teams over and over again. Not sure who that photo is? Choose the name you’ve seen the most that game and you’re probably right. Not sure who won the 1966 FIFA World Cup? Just wait, you’ll have ten questions about it (England by the way now that I’ve seen those ten questions).

The graphics in the game are mostly of the interface variety and there’s no actual action. After all it’s a trivia title and not an action title. Anyway it’s all very well done and the football theme runs through the entire game. There are image-based rounds with take actual photographs and ask you questions about them. The graphics are lively and really set the game’s atmosphere.

The sound is equally well done and helps to set the game show-like atmosphere that accompanies most trivia-based games. Really I don’t have much more to say about it.

You can play alone, which is pretty much no fun, with friends locally or even online via XBLA. There are leaderboards as well so if you want to get your name on the top you’ll have to bring your A game. I imagine that playing with friends locally is the most fun out of all of those as you can see their expressions when you put on your football trivia kit and school them right proper.

Really what’s more to say? It’s a fine game that will certainly be fun for football fans but not at all for others. It’s still an excellent representation of a trivia-based game and I think that if you love football, you need this game even with its redundant questioning at times.

Our Rating for Football Genius Review (XBLA)
8.0
Overall
A niche title that will be a hit with football fans around the world even if the questions are at times repetitive.
