Item reviewed: Toki Tori PC on PC

I reviewed Toki Tori for the iPhone some time back and it received one of the highest marks ever from me. Now the game is back and this time it’s on the PC hoping to hit a far wider audience. The same platform-based puzzle solving skills will be needed in this version as in the previous, mostly due to it being the same game.

Guide Toki through multiple levels and help him overcome obstacles to free his egg friends. Use teleports, build bridges, freeze enemies and more. It’s all here just like on the iPhone, and it’s all still good fun. The game’s bubble pop soundtrack gets things rolling and the graphics still look as good as they did on the iPhone. Perhaps even better as you get a much bigger look at them.

Included in this version, thanks to a recent update, are some Steam features like achievements, friends lists, user profiles and the whole Steam Community bit.

Again the game has four areas with around 30-40 levels per area. They are grouped into Normal, Hard and Bonus. That means over 120 levels of Toki Tori fun and hour after hour of it. Certainly well worth the price. Of course sometimes the music makes it hard to think, but it can be turned off, as can the sound effects and there are three levels of visual effects - to accommodate those with lower end PCs.

What’s also new here is the added ability to customize the controls. While I normally play with the mouse only there are some keyboard controls that are configurable as well. You can even, if you wish, use your gamepad to play. While Toki Tori is not one of those massively-action-packed titles http://gamersdailynews.com/images/awards/GDN_Gold_Award_LORES.gifthat might require all of this, it’s nice to see that they included it.

Overall, Toki Tori for the PC is a good addition to the game and I think it really opens the game to a far wider audience. For those without iPhones or with phobias of touch screen games, you can now get into one of the coolest platform logic puzzlers around and still for a great price (4,50 Euro).

A great, challenging and cool platform logic game. Hours of fun for an awesome price, what more do you need?
