Kurulin Fusion Review (PSP)

Kurulin Fusion combines some strategy skills with your standard match-three and places it all in a cool atmosphere with great visuals and tunes. The music was
done by reknowned Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu and is based on classical music (but in a totally techno sort of way).
The game is based on a two piece process, energy orbs and fusion blocks. In order to clear the orbs they must be in direct contact with each other and with a fusion block. Blocks can be fused together to give you a score multiplier to score some big point. There are three modes available Arcade, Mission and Score Attack. Arcade is the classsic play until you run out of space version while Mission gives you specific goals to reach in ordre to clear the level. Score Attack gives you one or three minutes to get the highest score you can. There is also multiplayer available via local area network.
The game also gives you a storage slot where you can stockpile a couple pieces if you don’t want to play them immediately. This can really be helpful in those times of need or when you just need to set up the board to clear one of the missions. The missions can be fairly challenging and require some small amount of logic and strategy where the rest of the game is your standard get the most points you can.
The music’s frenetic pace does become annoying from time to time
and can make it difficult to think. Of course, you can just turn the volume down and block it out. While playing the Arcade or Score Attack the music is no problem it’s when you do the Mission mode and need to process some thought that it sort of gets in the way. That’s not to say that it’s bad, it just interferes with thought at times.
Overall, the game is cool and engrossing. I can sit down to play a quick game for the review and suddenly 15 even 30 minutes have gone by. It does get repetitive after some time but that’s where the Mission mode comes in, when you want that extra bit of challenge.
