Heavy Rain Review (PS3)

I went into Heavy Rain fairly open-minded because I’m always looking for something new. I knew that it wasn’t exactly a game but more of a film that the player guided. Apparently, the decisions you make and things you
do will affect the way the story goes and perhaps even the outcome. What do I think of it? Well, I sat down when it arrived to just take a peek and see what it was all about. I stopped playing two hours later.
It certainly is sort of creepy to have these obviously fake people doing what you tell them to do on some level. Especially the opening scene what with the toothbrushing, shaving and showering. But still, I played on. It was all establishing the background of the main character and it was interesting.
The graphics are pretty good aside from the character models and some animations. The environments are richly detailed and though there are some jagged lines from time to time the sort of film noir style hides the flaws well much
of the time. Plus you’ll be so engrossed in the story (possibly) that you aren’t even concerning yourself with mundane technical details.
When I say engrossing I mean it. There is a fight scene where you have to tap the buttons and such at the right times. I missed a few and that fight dragged on for longer than I would have liked. But in the end I managed to mash the proper buttons at the proper times and felt good about the character’s success, even though it was really my own success. My heart might even have been racing a little.
