We rounded up the guys and stopped them running with scissors long enough to sit down and chat with us about jizz rags, poo flinging and the problems with getting their content on the Xbox 360 (which we believe shouldn’t be a problem looking at other titles on the platform)
Answers were supplied by RWS Lead designer Steve Wik and the Akella Producer Andrew Belkin (obviously the straight man in the pair).
[GDN] So Postal III, will it ever be done? I mean really, you guys have been talking smack about this game forever! (alright, 2006, but still!)
Steve Wik - Patience grasshopper. Wax on, wax off. Maybe we’ve been waxing off a little too much? Remember we are a tiny team compared with most of your name-brand studios, and also have more meth addicts. Rest assured we’re not spending time implementing retarded mini-games like checkers or timed shoe tying. It takes time to brew our unique stew of insane game-play and hilarious social commentary. With jizz rags.
Andrew Belkin - Firstly, that’s not exactly true. The first PR’s major message actually was that RWS married Akella and joint efforts were to be put into giving birth to a sequel. Actual production didn’t start until late 07-early 08, when we showed the first demo at the GDC ’08.
Secondly, P3 is the biggest project both companies have ever undertaken as developers. This is both fun and a lot of responsibility at the same time. We simply cannot spoil people’s expectations by releasing a game that is ’not exactly there yet’…so to say.
After all, when you are in a restaurant, I bet you’d prefer to wait a little longer to be treated with better food, then getting a crappy undercooked meal faster & spending the rest of the night hugging your ’white friend’...
[GDN] I’ve heard rumblings you’re having...issues, getting the game to the Xbox 360, is that true?
SW - None that I’m aware of. From what I’ve seen so far, the jizz rags are transferring over to [Xbox] 360 quite nicely. Who knew they had a chip for that?
AB - Let’s clarify: we don’t have any ’technical’ issues bringing the game to 360 - that’s what we started from back in 08 with the first demo. But we do have issues publishing the game on that platform. This is just not happening until we have a publisher licensed by Microsoft... and odds are we don’t have one yet...
[GDN] When can we expect the dust to clear so that we can all get our grubby little hands on Postal III?
SW - I’m willing to stick my neck out and guarantee it’ll be in your hands before Duke Forever.
AB - Well, again, this very much depends on what version you are waiting for. As per [Xbox] 360 - until we have a confirmed publishing partner all our projections are meaningless.
PC is more predictable though. Even more, one territory is already confirmed for release for this year... and it is Russia.
