Alpha Protocol from Obsidian Entertainment and SEGA is set for release next month. GDN got their hands on the game so we can tell you what we think. And we think, it’s come a long way.![]()
The game was delayed a couple times for unknown reasons. Our guess would be that those delays were to create a far better gaming experience and they’ve done just that.
Almost everything is spot on in the game. The graphics and sound are great, the story is interesting and the gameplay is varied and engrossing. It’s hitting on all of the things that a good game needs to.
Considering the length of development time and the amount of work put into it, it’s certainly looking like it will live up to the promises, for the most part.
I first created a pure stealth character to see how well they had implemented this potentially tricky facet of the game. I was very pleased with the results. Considering that your character is a highly trained field agent he should be able to ascertain certain things. Among those are which direction an enemy is facing, where a camera is looking and how to sneak and attack hand-to-hand quickly and quietly. All of these things are implemented very well in the game and they make the stealth portion of the game fun and well worth the effort. Many games that have stealth gameplay in them are often frustratingly difficult or unbalanced in some way. But Alpha Protocol does a good job of avoiding many of those old pitfalls.
