Psyko 5.1 Gaming Headset Review

Posted by ,

What Makes the Psyko 5.1 PC Gaming Headset Different?

That is a very good question to answer in the intro to this review.  As most professional and hobbyist gamers will tell you, they are constantly looking for the edge to beat their competition using their senses to the best of their abilities.  Whether it be perfecting the best strategy, using set grenades or chokepoints, gamers have gotten used to using their sight as an advantage, but the Psyko 5.1 PC Gaming headset is designed to help level the playing field by using your hearing as an advantage over other gamers.

About Psyko Wave Technology:

Most headset technologies only make use of audio positioning using left/right accuracy. This is very inaccurate from a standard speaker and true surround setup if you really take the time to considerate it. Imagine you’re sitting in a perfect speaker setup and someone approaches from your right side, as you can imagine your left ear can still pick up remnants of the sounds, just slightly delayed and with less emphasis. Your average headset takes away from this experience by only sending sound to one ear, and they can’t accurately create realistic production.

This is where the hard work of the Psyko design team comes into play, the Pykso 5.1 PC gaming headset has had some considerable amount of time and research put into it, including some pretty remarkable research in the Pinna effect and how each person’s ear can perceive and reflect different sound frequencies based on the ear and ear canal shape .  Other headsets use a form of digital sound processing (DSP) to replicate sounds and to remove the limitations of headphones.

The main problem being with that solution is that they use the same algorithm for everyone, when in truth each person has their own unique ears to process the signals, and it just is not the same experience with being able to hear the total sound in its entirety, unaltered and lag free. This is where using the Psyko wave technology truly has its advantages.

Here are some diagrams from Psyko’s website that might make the functionality a bit more clear:

Great comfort and functionality for a gaming headset, probably the best out there for accuracy.
