First a little primer, Mount and Blade With Fire and SworMount and blade with fire and swordd is the third game in the series. Mount and Blade was met with a fervent community that continued to grow. When Warband, the second game in the series was announced, that community went into overdrive due to the inclusion of multiplayer. How will TaleWorlds top that with the upcoming With Fire and Sword?

Well for starters, they’ve included guns. These are not rapid-fire, automatic machine guns. These are hand loaded, single shot pistols and rifles that have as much chance of killing someone on your side as they do hitting your intended target. Hey, guns were rudimentary in the 16th century and they have done a pretty good job of showing that in the game. There are also improvements to siege warfare, general gameplay and city/town/castle governance.

Players have a chance to be injured in combat or bar fights. This lowers your stats for a random amount of days. The day count appears in your quest journal.

Players can buy caravans of goods. Various amounts of one good type can be bought and escorted (by the player) to the chosen town (selected during purchase). Be sure to research the price of good X before buying heaps of it, you can lose/gain lots of money this way.

NPC nobles can provide the player with current army counts of different factions.

Mayors in each town/castle offer quests/caravans/trade permits to the player. Additional Mayors are your go-to guy for managing/upgrading your town/castle.

Persuasion and trade skills are more important in WfaS than previous M&B games.

Players and NPCs alike can choose to travel via "wagon fort" i.e. a protected envoy that when attacked, puts the defending army inside a circle of carts with a small entry point. Players assaulting an envoy can choose to ’attack on foot’ or ’attack mounted.’ Attacking on foot is slower but makes entering the envoy easier, while mounted is faster it means that your army will need to dismount before entering.

Players have more interactions in bars.

  • Bar fights: The player can bet on himself in a 1-on-1 fist fight.
  • Insulting an NPC to fight: Insert a "your mom" joke here to start a 1-on-3 sword fight with an NPC.
  • Cheers to ’faction X’: You can say toast to a certain faction with NPCs, toast to the wrong faction to start a bar fight.
