Microvision ShowWX+ Pico Projector Review (electronics)

Posted by , 312 days ago

I should have had this review done some time ago. But the longer I put it off, the longer I get to play with the Microvision ShowWX+ Pico Projector. The fact of the matter is that I probably need one of these for myself because it is such a great piece of technology. The Microvision ShowWX+ pico projector

For those that don’t know, Microvision makes some pretty amazing products including, laser pico projectors. The ShowWX+ is about the same size as an iPhone and pushes out an amazing picture.

  • Resolution: WVGA (848 x 480)
  • Brightness: 15 Lumens
  • Aspect Ratio: 16:9 Widescreen

SHOWWX+ Laser Pico Projector Size & Weight

  • Height: .55 in (14 mm)
  • Width: 2.36 in (60 mm)
  • Weight (with battery):  4.3 oz (122 g)

As you can see, small and light. It also comes with a good range of accessories standard so that you can connect it to a wide variety of sources like your iPhone, DVD/blu-Ray player, camera, smartphones and yes, even game consoles and computers. To be honest, the VGA adapter was an extra accessory that was sent which allowed me to connect it to my netbook.

Included Accessories:

  • Rechargeable battery
  • Wall charger
  • Cable for iPhone, iPad, iPod
  • Composite adapter
  • Storage pouch
  • Micro-USB cable
  • Wrist strap
  • User guide

OPTIONAL ACCESSORY (with review unit):

SHOWWX VGA Dock - Cable for SHOWWX+ Laser Pico Projector used to share content from a laptop, netbook, MacBook and more.

Our Rating for Microvision ShowWX+ Pico Projector Review (electronics)
8.5
Feel
It’s small and highly portable, but gets very hot when in use. It feels solid yet still maintains a very low weight.
9.5
Usability
The room needs to be quite dark if you want to get a rather large image but the ShowWX+ performed admirably when given a wide range of display tasks including games, TV and film.
9.0
Value
The unit is a bit pricey at $319 from the online store right now. But considering you’re getting a full-fledged laser projector for that money, no one should be complaining. You will need to buy an optional accessory for VGA-connectivity.
9.0
Overall
If ever a piece of hardware truly deserved a GDN Gold award, it is the Microvision ShowWX+ Pico Projector. I have never wanted to keep a piece of tech I received for review as much as I want to keep this one. It does an amazing job of being highly portable and providing a fantastic viewing experience.
