Soul Calibur IV Review

The sound, while not amazing, stays very true to the Soul Calibur roots and sound much like the previous games. The voice actors won’t be winning any awards for their work in the game, but they are better than most other fighting games out there. Throughout the entire game though, I couldn’t help but wonder if the game would actually be better off without the announcer. A lot of time he just ends up talking over the characters or just repeating the same thing, over and over and over.

| Our Rating for Soul Calibur IV Review | |
| 7.0 | Replay There’s a lot to do in the single-player mode as long as you don’t mind replaying the same thing with a different character. Unless the online receives a much needed patch, don’t expect to be playing it very long. |
| 9.0 | Graphics The characters and environments look incredible and are well deserving of a perfect ten, but the games under ambition to make full use of the lighting holds it back. |
| 8.5 | Sound The destructible sound is nice and the voice-overs are decent, but the announcer needs to go. |
| 8.5 | Gameplay The game play is an absolute blast and stays true to the Soul Calibur roots. The only bad thing is that there are almost no additions to help spice up the game play and make it almost identical to Soul Calibur III. |
| 7.0 | Multiplayer/Online Content Not much there, and so many problems with lag, made for a frustrating time. |

Overall Soul Calibur IV is a fun game, but its complete lack of story, and poor online play, keep this title from reaching its full potential. |

On paper it certainly looks like Namco has been very busy. This is the first Soul Calibur game to be made for the next generation consoles, the first to feature online gameplay, and features two of the most famous characters in any form of entertainment – Darth Vader and Yoda. But after playing through nearly every nook and cranny, just how busy has Namco really been?
