7 Wonders: Treasures of Seven Review (Nintendo DS)

7 Wonders: Treasures of Seven expands upon the standard match-three gem genre and turns it on its head that allows you to spin the game board. This allows you to let the power ups interact in different directions.
When you finish a level, by clearing a gem in every square on the game board, you then have the pathway puzzle. That requires you to guide a large key through a pathway to an end point keyhole to finish the level. The game offers power ups when you match four and five of a kind. Four gets you the ice ball which clears all gems in a row. Five gets you the fireball which clears all gems in the row and the column. There’s also the dice bonus which appears after four power ups are used, this power up randomly removes 15-20 gems.
There is also a time freeze feature that you get when you match three of the displayed color. The point of the game is to complete each of nine wonders of the world like the Midaios Cathedral, Leaning Tower of Pisa, Throne Hall of Persepolic, etc. in the story mode. There’s also free play which allows you to play any level that you’ve already previously finished in story mode. Overall the game is entertaining and the spinning game board does add to it, but it seems like there could have been more of a use of the moving board than there actually is. Still, if you’re looking for a new match-three challenge this will keep you entertained for a handful of hours. You would be far better off just playing the online or downloadable version over at Big Fish Games for $2.99 |
| Our Rating for 7 Wonders: Treasures of Seven Review (Nintendo DS) | |
| 6.0 | Replay Free play doesn’t really give you a lot of reason to come back and play all the levels again. Then again, every match three level is played differently every time. |
| 6.0 | Graphics They are fairly standard fare for the Nintendo DS which is now beginning to really show its age . |
| 6.0 | Sound I didn’t really notice the sound all that much and often played with it down or not on at all as it wasn’t necessary to the game play. |
| 8.0 | Gameplay It does have a bit more gameplay than the same old, same old of traditional match three, but they could have implemented the turning gameboard more creatively. |

Overall It’s a match three, the turning gameboard is interesting but it’s nothing extremely exciting and I breezed through most of the levels in just a handful of hours. The game lost a lot of overall score based on price. |
