Mad Catz MLG Pro Circuit Xbox 360 Controller Review (Hardware)

Simply put, I love the MLG Pro Circuit Controller for Xbox 360. I know, I know, that’s not the proper way to start off a review for a new product, but I don’t care, because it’s a fact. The MLG Pro Circuit Xbox 360 controller, which Mad Catz sent us for review, is the sturdiest, most-configurable, comfortable controller I’ve ever seen and now, I want one for my PS3 as well. For pro gaming, wired is the way to go and I think this will be seen in a lot of player hands this year on both platforms.
The cable on the MLG Pro Circuit Xbox 360 Controller is a pretty thick, braided affair in its own right and features a standard quick disconnect near the USB port end in case you accidentally jerk it too far. In terms of controller cables, this is like the Goliath and all the rest are puny little Davids. This ensures that you’ve got a good connection and that the cable won’t fail any time soon. If you do happen to damage the cable, you can probably contact Mad Catz and order a new one up which is another benefit over standard wired controllers. |
| Our Rating for Mad Catz MLG Pro Circuit Xbox 360 Controller Review (Hardware) | |
| 9.5 | Feel The only possible thing that could have been different was the ability to move the buttons, but I can also understand why that’s not an option. |
| 10.0 | Usability The comfort level is fantastic, the quality and sturdiest are excellent and the ability to move the sticks and d-pad is essential. The rubberized surface really offers some extra grip and the weight system is surprisingly pleasing. |
| 10.0 | Value This is the last controller you will ever need and it’s just $100. Sure, you might need to replace a part here and there over the years or when a totally updated version comes out, but really, this controller is built to last a lifetime and the price tag is extremely reasonable. |

Overall Sooooo close to a perfect score, but not quite and it’s just because of a personal preference about not being able to move the buttons, which may sound trivial. |

But let’s step back a bit and find out why I’m gushing over this serious piece of kit. First off, the cable comes off and it’s supposed to. I often wrap the cables around my Xbox 360 wired controllers and sometimes fear I’m going to do it one too many times and pull something loose at the connection point. I haven’t yet, but it’s just a matter of time. For the MLG Pro Circuit Xbox 360 controller, I don’t have to worry as it has a threaded, metal connector for the cable and that means you can simply remove the cable and store it in a better way. The connector is one of those industrial grade deals with a five-point star pin configuration. The notch on the connector is plain to see meaning you won’t be trying to force it on the wrong way round.
