Depth Hunter Review (Windows PC)

Every now and then, a gamer will see a game, and with eyes wide and jaw dropped, scream, “I have to play that!” I had one of those experiences this week. You may think it was after watching the trailer for Far Cry 3 or Borderlands 2, or perhaps the announcement of the Blacklight Retribution Open Beta, but my experience was a little odd to say the least.
My excitement came when I saw that Depth Hunter released on GamersGate. I don’t know what exactly caught my eye. Was it the chance to go spear fishing (something I have never done in a game before)? Was it the beautiful underwater landscapes? Perhaps it was the fact that Depth Hunter was touted as a fantastic 3D experience. Whatever the reason, I knew that I had to try it out, and in retrospect, that was a fantastic decision.

Depth Hunter Gameplay Mechanics
Those of you who are looking for a deep story with plot twist and turns, should look elsewhere. Depth Hunter immediately thrusts you into an underwater environment filled with coral, fish, treasure, and adventure. Upon launching the game, the menu offers you 2 game play modes; campaign and freeplay mode (which unlocks after you play the campaign).
The controls of Depth Hunter are rather simple. You swim through the deep with WASD, spacebar acts as your boost, right click zooms and left click fires your spear gun. Once you have a fish hooked (or rather impaled) you can reel them in with the mouse scroll wheel, or with W and S on the keyboard. A meter on the left of the HUD shows you your oxygen level, and a meter on the top indicates how strongly your spear is stuck in your prey. Pull too strong on the rope and the fish will get away.
