Relic and THQ are hard at work on Dawn of War 2. I know this because I saw a gameplay demo and presentation at Leipzig. They really did a lot of work that is persuading me to give the franchise another look when the title releases. After what I thought was a disappointing showing in some of the previous titles I’m really excited for this release next year.
The Missions System:
Dawn of War 2 is single player (read about multiplayer near the end) and the mission choices are non-linear. What missions you choose to do will trigger an event and you will just have to deal with the results of that event. You won’t be able to do every mission as they will expire before you get to them. You won’t win every mission either.
But if you lose it you don’t have to go back and do it again, there’s no more need to replay a mission over and over again. You will keep all the experience and the items that you found in the mission which is cool. It’s more realistic now. You will never win every battle in a war but when you pull out of a battle or lose the mission it’s ok. In fact we were told that you could fail 75% of the missions and still win the campaign. It’s all about strategy now and a more realistic view of the wars.
