Want a Splitfish FragFX for your PS3? You and like 30,000 other people. I spoke with Jason Johnson, Co-Founder and Head of Creative Development at Splitfish and he assured me they have heard your pleas and are working to fill all those orders. With multiple new manufacturing facilities in the works they should be able to ramp up production rather quickly in the near future and start filling all those back orders.
We also talked about all sorts of things that might be in the pipeline for future models but he said I couldn’t tell you anything about all of that so, sorry Charlie.
Seriously, he did say I could talk about new textures, weights, larger mice and new platforms. I just can’t tell you anything about them all.
But he did email me this week and said that in short, the FragFx, as a dynamic gamers product, is updated at every chance possible to bring whatever new advantages we can to the FPS players.
The FragFxV2 changes, although subtle, are in response to our clans’, and customers’ feedback and are very important to us. In short we have made some d-pad and button modifications (on both the fragchuk and mouse), as well as response curve tweaks and firmware adjustments that should provide an even more solid FragFx experience to our hardcore gamers.
We will also be providing some new mousepad options in the FragFx/mousepad bundle. We will be employing some larger changes to the mouse in 2009 (like size and weight) - but the 2008 version available in retail this fall will remain visually very similar - however, it will still have some new advantages, such as some modified buttons, strengthened cables, and a rapid fire feature.
So there you go. Big Changes for the small company that is swimming upsteam.
I had a chance to do some gaming with the unit at Leipzig and while I died a lot because he and I were chatting it definitely has some huge benefits like the on the fly sensitivity wheel which is brilliant for switching from run-and-gun to sniping on the fly. I thought the mouse was on the small side and too light which he said are some of the changes that they are looking in the form of larger mice and weights in the units.
I’d like to thank Jason for taking the time to chat (he was stoked as I wasn’t there to talk about sales) and to email me this week with the extra info.
