Feeding Frenzy 2: Shipwreck Showdown Review

Posted by ,

Item reviewed: Feeding Frenzy 2: Shipwreck Showdown Review on PC

As a sequel to an aquatic original for Xbox Live Arcade, Feeding Frenzy 2 builds on what in already established previously. That it was one of those run of the mill standard fish eating frenzy titles. However, what most may be wondering is, how long can you roam in the bottom of the sea searching for fish to eat without getting bored and eventually shutting down? It’s possible to think that Feeding Frenzy 2 isn’t exactly a necessary sequel, but to improve upon the first is always a must when the first Feeding Frenzy didn’t exactly provide a good amount of fun to begin with.

Now, when you look at it from the start, Feeding Frenzy 2 is one of the games that can keep the kids busy before they go to bed so you can hit off with your real gaming.  The ten bucks you spend on the game or 800 MS points is enough to warrant mostly because of the 60 levels you get with the single player and multiplayer modes. Single and Multiplayer don’t really differentiate themselves much considering its just co-op on the same levels with two fish instead of one flying around the screen looking to fill each others stomach. There are options to play the game on Easy or Normal if you’re looking for a challenge in the ocean depths.

There are other modes that might be interesting or entertaining for a few minutes to change up the gameplay. Things like ‘Time Attack’ put a twist on the traditional single player and encourage you to eat as many fish/frenzy’s as possible before time runs out.  PopCap games certainly wanted to improve their formula and along the way you’ll notice new power-ups floating around and pearls in clam shells increasing your chances of upgrading to eating bigger fish. The party games bring something different as mentioned before, and for instance there is a Feeding Tournament to decide who can get the highest score possible out of their frenzy’s.

Our Rating for Feeding Frenzy 2: Shipwreck Showdown Review
6.5
Replay
There isn’t much to really keep Feeding Frenzy 2 in your mind long after you’ve played it the first time.
7.1
Graphics
The nice touches like ripple effects and dashes with that jump to your fishes step make it pleasing to the eye.
7.0
Sound
A decent effort makes ocean effects that much more realistic in every sense of the word. Nothing groundbreaking here, but the simple tunes help to create the atmosphere.
6.9
Gameplay
Swimming from one side of the screen to the other to collect fish isn’t exactly the cream of the crop when it comes to gameplay design.
7.0
Multiplayer/Online Content
4-player co-op in multiplayer and single player gives it a plus, although a small minus considering it’s not online co-op that could’ve been featured.
7.1
Overall
The 4 player co-op offers a chance for it to redeem its redundancy compared to its other options. But, what Feeding Frenzy 2 mostly boils down too is a fish collector that is about as straightforward as you can get.
