C&C Red Alert 3 Review

Posted by David Dr. Gonzo Griffiths,

It is 1942, Nazi oppression continues to grow and it’s up to you and your army to stop them…that’s what I would be saying if this was yet another war based game taking place during the story of Hitler’s bid for world domination. Red Alert 3 stays true to the tradition of the series with its original plot and comedic amounts of cheese in the form of a bright and colourful movie-like conquest crossing the boundaries of logic and sensibility.

You are given the choice of three armies, The Soviet Union, The Allied Forces, and the latest addition to the conflict, The Empire of the Rising Sun. To give you a quick summary of what’s going on; The Russian’s are traveling back in time to change the course of history so they can restore the glory of the motherland, The Allies of course are doing there bit to keep the peace but are being heavily overrun and to add a problem for both combating parties The Empire Of The Rising Sun have decided that no one but them should rule the world.

Each army does have its own unique characteristics and offer a slightly different experience and separate techniques work better depending on the faction you choose to control. The Russians are equipped with the “Tesla” and “Iron Curtain” defense technology and the Allies use their vehicle transporting “Chronosphere” for a speedy advance on the enemy while the Empire Of The Rising Sun have mech units capable of altering shape and function much like a Transformer or Mech Robot seen so often in Japanese manga cartoons.

Our Rating for C&C Red Alert 3 Review
9.0
Replay
Though the formulaic gameplay may become a bit repetitive but there is a huge amount of gaming to be had with three campaigns to complete, plenty of online play, and you can bet on there being an expansion released soon.
9.0
Graphics
Colourful, bold and packed with lush looking effects but not quite up to the standard of today’s graphical capabilities.
9.9
Sound
Not a thing wrong with the audio, awesome war music creates the perfect feel as you march in to combat and the sound effects do their job well.
8.0
Gameplay
User friendly and easy to use system along with the introduction of a co-op mode makes it interesting and there’s plenty of fun to be had but you can get this experience from either of the previous C&C titles.
9.9
Multiplayer
The co-op campaign mode offers an exhilarating experience which is a first for the genre, combine this with a vast online multiplayer war zone and you have a decade of fun at your hands.
9.2
Overall
Bags of fun that will keep you busy for a life time, the flaws are there but are thankfully only minor. A solid and welcome return to the Red Alert series.
