The Mortal Kombat franchise has been around awhile and has grown up with the consoles, the biggest question is, not whether it can be better graphically , but can it bring something else to the table. The answer to that is yes and no.

The game is gorgeous from the outset, the enviroment, characters are absolutely outstanding. The details are so spectacular, that at times in the beginning, I was almost more interested with the environment around me and the details and forget I was fighting. The sad part, you can’t explore or walk around it, you are in a small area in each fight. You can throw people around, and have a full 360 degrees view and movement in the fight scenes but it seemed almost too limiting. You could only throw your opponent so far, and at times it looked like he was stopped by an invisible wall and slide down it. Some of the powers they had, you could run through several walls using them like a battering ram, etc.. but yet you still wound up in the same place.

The gameplay is similar to other Mortal Kombat’s in the past, but of course with the DC Universe included. There are several modes, Arcade, Story, Kombo Challenge, and Pratice for single player and two modes of Multiplayer.  The Arcade mode, is much the same as going back to the old days and just beating the heck out of the computer opponent, and Story , is just that a story is followed to the "T", no deviation, and to my suprise even though you pick a side at the beginning of the game, doesn’t mean you only fight the opposite side. The story was well written, but for me I could have done without. I guess maybe I’m a bit old school and just wanted to get to the next fight and move on. The Kombo Challenge is where you can hone your skills by perfecting combos scripted by the designers of the game. This was actually fun and challenging at the same time. Practice Mode is exactly that, no time limit, and the health bar will automatically refill

Our Rating for Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe Review
6.0
Replay
Though there are several modes and the story mode is interesting, I can only feel the repetive nature will get the best of you
9.0
Graphics
As mentioned, they are some of the best, from environment to characters, to the movements, very well done.
7.0
Sound
Nothing hurts the game, but doesn’t seems to really enhance it either.
8.0
Gameplay
With the 360 degree environment its really quite intriguing, and for those of Mortal Kombat fans the button mashing isn’t much different
5.0
Multiplayer
The two player was old school, but online was VERY bare.
7.5
Overall
Two major fans are converging on this game as we speak, but I suspect they will feel all a bit bored after about two weeks. Rent before buying
