Item reviewed: Ankh: Curse of the Scarab King on DS

Ankh Curse of the scarab king takes you back to ancient Egypt. The young Assil in confronted with a problem. After a prohibited party in the pyramid he caught a death curse from the recently buried Scarab King. As if that wasn’t enough, he unintentionally comes into possession of the Ankh, the symbol of life. Osiris is looking for the symbol so that he might enter into the world of the living. So your task as Assil is to ask the Pharaoh for help, get rid of the curse and not get yourself killed in the meantime.

Ankh has been around for sometime and this is third title in the series, the first on the DS. Why Xider decided to take the point-and-click series off the PC and put it on the DS is beyond me and could very well be the downfall of the series.

A point-and-click adventure requires that the gamer be able to clearly see the screen. Of course when you’re cramming a whole game into one screen on the Nintendo DS you’re losing a lot of real estate from a standard-sized screen on a PC. Yes, I said just one screen. The upper screen is only for information about your inventory and a few other minor things. The entire gameplay section is fit into the touch screen which I think was a big waste of space in the upper screen.

Our Rating for Ankh Curse of the Scarab King DS Review
0.1
Replay
I didn’t even want to finish it once let alone go back and play it again.
6.0
Graphics
Nothing spectacular even when you take into account the cut-scenes.
8.0
Sound
Good soundtrack, full voice acting but repetitive at times and slightly out of sync with the atmosphere.
5.0
Gameplay
Tedious, difficult, and repetitive. Mostly due to the fact that you can hardly see any of the items you should interact with and there’s not even an inkling of help.
0.1
Multiplayer/Online Content
N/A
4.7
Overall
A completely poor attempt at taking the series to the DS. Hopefully they either return it to the PC or they make broad sweeping changes to it for another go at the DS.
