Verbatim Rapier V2 Review

Posted by Christophor SuperGuido Rick, 201 days ago

The other week I wrote up the Verbatim Rapier V1 laser gaming mouse. This week I’m taking a look at the Verbatim Rapier V2. I guess you could say this is the premium model of the two though it doesn’t have a cool carrying case like the V1 and has only seven buttons – Left, Right, Mouse wheel (clickable), two thumb buttons and two center buttons.

Via the Gamer Toolkit software included each of the seven buttons can be programmed for specific purposes. Scripts can be single keys or complex patterns that actually move the mouse cursor and included delays, repeats and holds. The software also controls things like how the LEDs light up and react when a Marco is being executed, a great visual indication to add some flair. There are also four speed settings that can range from 400 to 3200 DPI. I commonly use a 2 level set like 800, 1600, 800, 1600 so one click in either direction generally takes me from run-and-gun to sniper mode when in FPS. For standard day-to-day operations I use 1600 DPI, I like a quick mouse.

The Rapier V2 is larger in the hand with a shiny dark red with black highlights. It’s a bit slick and in a heated moment of FPS action could slip from your grip as the rubberized sides are without any form of texture making them completely smooth. The mouse is shaped so that the majority of the unit is in the back. This caused me some discomfort as my wrist couldn’t rest comfortably on the unit. The high angle often caused my wrist to ache as I have no wrist rest that I use while gaming. The mouse is shaped something like a lady bug if you have an active imagination.

Our Rating for Verbatim Rapier V2 Review
8.0
Feel
While more comfortable overall than its cousin the Rapier V1, it caused my wrist to ache from time-to-time due to the high angle on the back part. Use a wrist rest.
8.5
Usability
The weight system, macros, and button configuration are nice. Aside from some minor issues with one center button and still being a little light, it’s a very solid option.

Overall
It’s bigger and better than the V1 but could still use a little redesign in the weights and shaping of the mouse body. Overall it’s an excellent gaming mouse if you’re one who uses a wrist rest when you game.
