The list is in no particular order. It seems 2009 will be the year for sequels and our list carries a few.
Lord of the Rings: Conquest (PC, Xbox 360, DS, PS 3): Who doesn’t like LoTR? We feel this game is really going to do well with the online features. Up to 16 people can go head to head, and up to four people can play Co-op. These features alone could make this game a success if it’s done right.
Godfather 2 (PC, PS 3, Xbox 360): The storyline seems to be better than the first, and the description seems to give the game so much more things you can control, such as hand picking your crew.
Eat Lead: Return of Matt Hazard (Xbox 360, PS 3): Maybe it’s the history of the game, but most of us at GDN remember the original, so it’s just fun to see an updated version of this title.
Batman: Arkham Asylum (PC, Xbox 360, PS 3): We have already done a bit of coverage of this and everything points to a great story, graphics and gameplay. This is one of the games that was mentioned the most.
Diablo III and Starcraft II (PC): I put these together mainly because of them both coming from Blizzard. The titles have been a while coming down the pike and probably are the most popular of all the games listed.
MadWorld (Wii): I know some of you probably think we are nuts listing this one, but the fact is it’s a bit different graphically which intrigues us.
Heavy Rain (PS 3) Ever since we saw the trailer on this one, it has had some buzz here. The dark story sound great, and hopefully the graphics will hold up.
Bionic Commando (PS 3, Xbox 360, PC) : One of the other games, the elder of the staff seemed to mention after the success of Bionic Command: Rearmed, we are curious to see how this title will hold up to the hype.
House of the Dead: Overkill (Wii) Wow, a second Wii title to make the list. This game will definitely have the most gore seen on the Wii and who can resist a little gore in their life.
Splatterhouse (PS 3, Xbox 360) Another gore filled game, that seems to have quite a following. The game has a cult following and it will be interesting how they bring this to the current gen consoles.
Red Faction: Guerrilla (PS 3, Xbox 360, PC) Set 50 years after the original, this 3rd person shooter will have updated weapons, equipment, and destructible environments. Sounds good enough for us.
F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin (PS 3, Xbox 360, PC) Maybe the scariest game of the year and we like to be scared. Coming out of the halls of Monolith, its gotta be good.
Moon (DS) I personally was surprised to see this title talked about, so I had to take a second look. The first thing that I was impressed with was that they pushed the date back. The graphics look great and the story line seems intriguing. This could well be the G.O.Y. for the DS.
Tom Clancy’s HAWX: (Xbox 360, PS 3, Wii, PC) When this was first announced, we just figured this was going to be the average fighter simulation. A couple of us that made it to E3, we came away from the game really impressed and couldn’t wait to see the retail version. Then the delay, and our hearts broke, I hope the delay already improved a great game.
Resident Evil 5: (PS 3, Xbox 360) Guess we just can’t seem to get enough of evil. The series hasn’t disappointed yet, and we can’t see Capcom doing it now.
Our Dark Horse is The Wall (PS 3, Xbox 360) This first person shooter has not really gotten much press, yet we feel this could pull down some awards. Between the graphics, and what we saw at Leipzig, we can’t wait to get our hand on it.
Another dark horse is Underwater Wars (Xbox 360, PC). Our Editor-in-Chief saw this first had at Leipzig and got a quick tour of the title. The dolphin-like jumping out of the water was just cool as was the combination of underwater and land-based missions.
Rock Revolution (Xbox 360, Wii, PS3, DS) could be just that, or just another clone of Rock Band and Guitar Hero only time will tell but now that Konami’s seen it done twice maybe they had some serious innovations to make.
You may or may not agree but these are the ones we want to see. Tell us what games your looking forward too. There is one I mentioned and everyone rolled their eyes at me but I’m looking to get my hands on MLB Front Office Manager (Xbox 360, PC, PS 3). I really wish there would be more sports simulation games like this. I’ve recently been playing NFL Coach 09 and I really like the premise. (I’m not saying it doesn’t have its issues, but I’ll post a review on this soon.) I’m a junkie when it comes to simulation games and I’m a sports fan, so this one is right up my alley. I’m glad I won’t have very long to wait as it comes out at the end of January.
