Skate 2 Review (Xbox 360)

Posted by Christophor Rick, 301 days ago

Multiplayer, in regards to the Hall of Meat levels, is an annoying amount of watching and waiting as each player must take turns doing their ‘trick’ so if you have six players in a match you’ll watch five times as much as you’ll play. It gets repetitive and annoying and I am actually writing while waiting my turn to wreck myself. It’s not that this isn’t fun, but it’s boring at times, especially if it’s three rounds of the same thing over and over again. At times playing online had nothing to do with the competition and everything to do with the environment that you were playing in. If you aren’t familiar with it or not good at a particular area, you are out of luck, completely.

The graphics aren’t all that great. There’s a modicum of customization that really boils down to about five types of body/head/face and then a bunch of clothes and some accessories that you can unlock and buy with your in-game cash. The graphics are, for lack of a better word, glitchy. It’s like they took so much time working on getting the skate mechanics in place that they took a pass on graphics. Your skater has two expressions - nothing and oh crap - awnings have poles that float in the air, your skater will at times pass right through objects that should be solid, the list goes on. The physics of falling and some skating are completely unrealistic and just plain laughable at times.

Our Rating for Skate 2 Review (Xbox 360)
9.0
Replay
Tons of things to do to keep you coming back including create-a-spot, achievements and a large amount of challenges.
7.0
Graphics
Glitchy. Incomplete and yet still appealing for the most part But textures are flat as are the models.
9.0
Sound
A fairly good soundtrack and some good sound effects make it a great sounding game. A few small things make it less than perfect.
8.7
Gameplay
The game is fun, the controls are good but at times you’ll just get frustrated with not being able to pull the tricks you want and that loses points.
8.0
Multiplayer
Lots of things to do online and lots of people to do it with. The impatient will get totally frustrated at the long waits.
8.2
Overall
It’s good, it’s fun...it’s just not perfect but it lands four on the floor. I’ve put in a ton of time and will put in a ton more.
