In general, the soundtrack is diverse with tunes spanning the history of skating. Sometimes a couple songs would play back to back that will make you shake your head but in general they are all well-suited to flipping tricks, except for the cowbell-laden Miami Vice-like song which had no place that it seemed to fit. The sound effects for the skating are pretty good except for an occasional spot here and there. The funny thing is that whenever your wheels touch something and aren’t spinning they make the typical screeching sound, so you can drag them across walls and stuff, something that you wouldn’t think they’d include since they didn’t have time to finish the graphics apparently.
As a skating game it’s good. But the glitches in the graphics really blow it in parts. That’s not to say that Skate 2 isn’t an enjoyable game. I’ve put in a good 20 hours already and I anticipate a good deal more. It’s a good execution that could have been far better with more attention to the details. The controls are sketchy at times as straight up and just off to the right or left become too close to discern properly in the heat of the game. With the fact that you can get points for wrecking yourself, play online in multiple modes, create your own spots and upload photos and videos online it’s got plenty of diversity to keep true skate fans satisfied for a long time. Everyone else might consider renting or playing the demo before skating to the local games shop.
