Tornado DS Review

Posted by Anne Scotch Guard Ross, 275 days ago

The other thing I found quite frustrating was the lack of time you were given to complete some of the earlier levels (between 3 – 6 mins).... once you run out of time the game not only sends you back to  the menu but seems to reset the whole thing so you then have to sit through all the logos and load up your save all over again before you can attempt to have another stab at the level.  Seeing as I had to have multiple tries at clearing some levels this seems a bit of a strange choice.

The mission objectives I also found fairly restrictive seeing as you only seem to have two types.  The first and third level you have to find a certain number of objects, this again makes the time restriction a pain as the close up camera angle makes it an impossible task to have an overview of a level in one go... and if you memory is a bit dodgy (like mine) you have to play the level several times before you locate all the items.

The other levels you have to find your buddy who is hidden in a building somewhere.  In those levels your top screen seems to be fairly useless only showing you the areas you have already cleared of objects. So you find yourself only being able to check a few buildings at a time.... by the end of it  I found myself wishing for a real natural disaster.

The multiplayer mode suffers from the same frustration due to lack of time. The arcade mode, however, does do away with objectives and simply challenges you to collect the objects. I did  find this more entertaining although sadly once again the time constraints imposed on you made me want to bang my head repeatedly against my DS screen. I found this game frustrating and a real true pain in the hand.

The graphics are sort of boxy and generic and uninspired.

Sound
Kind of cool mix of rock and techno music that takes your mind off the pain you’ll have in your hand sometimes.
2.0
Gameplay
Good core idea that is buried in a ton of irritating flaws making for a frustrating and painful gaming experience.

Multiplayer
Frustrating time restrictions and annoying objectives , grrrrr
4.0
Overall
Good idea for a game that was ruined by some cumbersome controls and ridiculous restraints and pointless objectives. Check your insurance disclaimer before playing.
