The gameplay is, suffice to say, somewhat bland. There are few enemy types, which upgrade in each of the three city sectors. The only attack Cole has that really lasts is his standard lightning bolt, which has unlimited power, compared to all other attacks which drain his limited charge. I found that the most satisfying attacks were the ones I could do rarely, and that I was forced to rely on either guerrilla tactics or to use just a few decent attacks and fire lightning bolts the rest of the time.

That’s not to say inFamous is a poor title. Empire City is a bustling, open world to explore and enjoy. Gliding along power rails and jumping from rooftops, climbing whatever ledge or pole that’s in arm’s reach, is fun. For its time. Thankfully, the progression of powers doesn’t prohibit speedy movement. Cole soon learns to hover, then to skate on power lines and railroad tracks. Albeit sections of the city require climbing and jumping, the pace of the game never makes anything too boring.

So far, you’ve heard plenty of complaints. What’s good about inFamous then? It’s fun. Surprisingly, it is a fairly decent game, one that deserves credit. It has it’s hiccups, and won’t live in our memories forever, but inFamous treats players with a strong 10-15 hours of solid gameplay and a reasonable story. It’s especially convenient that this PS3 title doesn’t require installation and that load times aren’t a problem. With no multiplayer and almost no replayability, I can’t in good conscience recommend it for purchase. The perfect game to rent, but not a great purchase.

Its really too bad that reviews like these get added to the GameRankings totals... especially when they don’t reflect the source content sufficiently, nor do they provide correct information and even contradict themselves throughout. Besides that, the score drags down the average, compared to other, more prominent, reviewers that outnumber these reviews. Although its no wonder that this article has such a low rating when you take that into account. But hey, you can’t expect much from a site that can’t spell the name correctly of the games they review, heh.

For your information, the game name is spelled correctly and only formatted slightly wrong. According to grammatical rules it should be infamous and therefore when in the title of the article or at the beginning of a sentence. Infamous. Granted the publisher stylizes it as inFAMOUS but honestly, that doesn’t reflect in any way on the content of the review.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and your ’more prominent’ reviewers all work for nice big corporations I’m sure who get paid lots of money and sometimes say a game is good when it’s not because if they don’t someone gets fired... or have you forgotten that incident? It wasn’t so long ago really.

If you were to average the scores (4+8+8+7)/4 = 6.75 which would get rounded up here to 7.0, I would say the reviewer was generous with the final score.

7 (Good): This is a solid game in a particular genre, with its flaws outweighed by what it does well in other areas. The game is at least worth a rental, if not a bargain bin purchase.

So there you go. Just pretend you’re an Olympic games judge, drop the highest and the lowest and get over it. The game has 75 reviews and an average of 86% Will you go flame Gamestyle for their 7 out of 10? How about GameShark for C+? Oh wait, Edge Magazine UK...a ’more prominent’ place... 7 out of 10 and Eurogamer, same score.

So tell me again how GDN dragged the score down?
