Treasure Seekers II: The Enchanted Canvases Review (iPhone)

The game is broken into chapters or rather, enchanted paintings (hence the subtitle) each of which is basically a location with a set of puzzles and object to solve and find. I had thought that since it was on the iPhone it would be too small to be playable but actually that’s not the case at all. In fact, with the zoom function (pinch the screen) you can expand to a point where everything is pretty easy to find. The game is also lightly animated. There are not full blown 3D environments which is good as they would probably bog down less powerful generations of iOS devices. As it is, it’s rather processor intensive and drains the battery fairly quickly (not as quickly as Angry Birds seems to do though).

The sound is quite well done in the game as well. It’s robust and full without being overbearing. The music does a good job of help setting the tone of the game and the atmosphere, just as it should. There are also various other sound effects that give the game more life and a richer soundscape.

Overall, I rather like this new breed of hidden object puzzleGamers Daily News Gold Award games. They’re more like casual point-and- click adventure games now and that’s far more fun than the old ones which just had you straining your eyes to find items in cluttered surroundings. These environments are less cluttered and most objects are partly hidden from view, by darkness or by using subtle shades of coloring to make them blend into the background. The interface for the puzzles never hampers your trying to find pieces. Sometimes, if you can’t find what you need, you might just guess. It works from time to time. There are hints available but you get better achievements without them.

There’s really only one flaw and that’s a lack of gamma adjustment. Often reflections and lighting will be more detrimental to your gameplay than your fat-fingering the touch screen.

Our Rating for Treasure Seekers II: The Enchanted Canvases Review (iPhone)
9.0 Overall
This is a highly enjoyable and engrossing hidden object puzzle game. One could almost call it Point-and-Click Lite and that wouldn’t be far off the mark.
