EA @ E3 2008

Posted by Wade "TNT" Hinkle,

Now the dust has settled, and technical diffuculties have subsided, I figure I would give a little bit of a review of each companies products thats was at E3. Im gonna start with ine of the bigger well know companies and move on from there

This was actually the first press conference I got to attend. It was on Monday at the Orpheum Theatre. As we registered weBill Walton and Peter Moore NBA Live 09 Demo were handed a retail copy of Spore Creature Creator. I’ve been playing around with a bit, but thats for another day. Though the facilities were nice, I guess my perception of what I was expecting was a bit more, I can’t complain now after going through all of them. EA touted about SimAnimals, NBA Live 09, NFL Madden 09, Sims 2 Store, Sims 3, Dead Space, Mirrors Edge, Tiger Woods 09, Nucleus ( an online account and social networking tool for EA exclusively). Bill Walton was on stage (some of us say a bit too long) giving commentary on the demo of NBA Live 09 (and Dynamic DNA) and something about seeing Bob Dylan and others, ages ago in this very theater. Then a very beautiful Natalie Gulbis (LPGA) came out in full gear to demonstrate the Wii Play on Tiger Woods 09. Unfortunately that were the only two  celebrity citings that day. Though it was a bit sensory overload for me over all it was entertaining and informative.

Madden NFL 2009 (DS, PS2, PS3, PSP, Wii, X360)

Always one of my favorite games of the year, but seems to have been run itself into the ground the last couple of years, with just the rosters were the only thing that has changed, as we all well know. The normal screens and trailers came down the pike, and yes a twinge of excitement would hit me but soon reality would hit me and I would come back to earth. When EA invited me to take a spin, I was totally expecting to be underwhelmed. I’m very happy to say I was wrong, and I mean VERY WRONG!

Once again I was only able to play exhibiton mode, but just the changes in that were enough for me to want the game now. If I could have walked out of the LACC with Madden, I would have ran all the way back to the hotel. The changes are so phenomenal. The trailers and screenshots don’t at this point do the game justice, and unfortunately the release date is still almost a month away.

The game we played was in the snow, and just the weather elements were so much more realistic. I’ll probably use the world realistic way too much here but if I had to use one word for the game, that would be it. From the snow falling to the ground and adding to the ground, to the amazing moves, the outside stadium looks, and so much more. Tom Hammond and Chris Colinsworth are back in the both with a whole to add more depth to the game. One of the most interesting parts of the game is the breakdown. This isnt the normal breakdown as the days gone by, for example you throw an interception, they bring the ball back and run the play again showing your mistakes, whether you threw it too early or there was another player that was wide open, etc. The coolest thing is that its all done with highlights and commentary giving the game the realism it has been missing the last few years. Im really excited about this title.
