Mercenaries 2 World in Flames Review
Posted by Billy Turrican Withers, 124 days ago

Now, after having a right good crack at Mercenaries 2, I can say I’m pretty damned impressed by what I’ve seen. Sure, it may not be the longest game in the world, maybe not even the most original, but it certainly IS one of the most entertaining pieces of gaming I’ve played in a while. It’s got a cool factor to it and it never seems to waiver as you play through the missions, whether it’s on your own or with a friend. Just Cause 2 is going to have its work cut out to regain its exploratory crown, as this is Pandemic’s labour of love and it just keeps on giving. There are one or two things that let it down a little, like iffy AI and the already mentioned shortness, but when you get such an enormous sense of enjoyment by grabbing an RPG or grenade launcher and wreaking havoc, you seem to put those thoughts on the backburner.

In one sentence, Mercenaries 2 World in Flames is just good ol’ fashioned fun in its purist gaming form. I’ll need to go and get the first one now.

Our Rating for Mercenaries 2 World in Flames Review
7.0
Replay
Wouldn’t say it’s a game for replay value, unless you want to blow more things up, online mode helps to keep the fire burning though.
8.2
Graphics
Bearing in mind the amount of area covered in some missions, it does a pretty decent job of this.
8.0
Sound
Good music and sound effects, but let down by some very repetitive in-game vocals.
9.0
Gameplay
Fun. Pure, unadulterated fun. Takes you back to the day when complex gaming intricacy consisted of getting an NES to work properly. No complaints here then.
8.5
Multiplayer
Didn’t need a multiplayer, but thank God they’ve put it in anyway, as this opens things up very nicely for friends to share in the chaos.
8.3
Overall
Mercenaries 2 is a joy to play. If only all games companies could convey so much of their own happiness and fun across like this, we’d enjoy everything ever released.
