Laxius Force Review
Posted by David Dr. Gonzo Griffiths, 121 days ago

The ever-sidetracking dialogue is a unique piece of scripture in itself and though at times it’s not totally grammatically correct, it plays a huge part in the games character, with it’s vulgar and very adult humour concocting with talk of sex and gore it provides an escape from the kiddie-like rules of most RPG’s past and present. An element which raised smiles in many places but unfortunately also had me cringing, it’s an excellent script, it really is, but I felt at times there was maybe too much focus on being adult and in your face with some lines being smutty at random and completely out of context.

The score acts as a fantastic commentary to the story, it’s catchy and fits in well with the atmosphere of every situation. Scenes with a bad vibe about them are gifted with an extra tone of evil as they combine with an eerie piece of vintage horror movie style music while times of success become lively and vibrant as the victory music plays at it’s happy tempo. Sound effects are few and far between but do all that they need to when you open treasure chests, doors, and your enemy’s fleshy armour.

All the key elements are here and Laxius Force makes for a great ease for the boredom, it has its annoyances but they are more than made up for by the essential plus points that come with a great RPG. It has music that gives you the perfect feel of adventure while providing you with a visual spectacle of the way things were once done and not once does it ever feel cheap or tacky. It’s at all times what it was intended to be and that is a beautiful dish of retro animation, a side order of vintage audio, sprinkled with new age humour and doused in a sinister storyline of adventure, despair, romance and confusion.

Beyond the story are many side quests and entertaining extras to keep you busy, albeit there’s only around 10 hours of extra play if you do them all. There’s still plenty of gaming for your buck at a humble price of $15 or £10. An awesome piece of reminiscence is provided here for the gamer of times gone by and a piece of education for all you young’uns out there with your new fangled 3D rendering, it’s not state-of-the-art but Laxius Force is an enthralling title that will have you thumping your keyboard as you continue to be enticed by it’s addictive characteristics and fantastic storyline. Sword at the ready, I’m off to play it again.

Replay
Running through the story once and the extra side quests gives you a taste for more. But the side quests and replayability are limited
8.0
Graphics
Excellent retro graphics, the phrase "less is more" shines true in this quirky RPG.

Sound
he score acts as a fantastic commentary to the story, it’s catchy and fits in well with the atmosphere of every situation. Sound effects are few and far between but do all that they need to.

Gameplay
A few things are missing that would have made this far better, like the lack of a flee/retreat/escape option in battle.

Overall
it’s not state-of-the-art but Laxius Force is an enthralling title that will have you thumping your keyboard as you continue to be enticed by it’s addictive characteristics and fantastic storyline. It stumbles in some areas but never really falls.
