[GDN] We know now about Sidequest’s origins. Can you also tell us about Eastasiasoft.com too?
[SQS]
Basically the idea of Soldner-X came first, upon which SideQuest Studios as the developer and eastasiasoft as the company funding and publishing the game were founded.
[GDN] Soldner was released on PC last December and received a decent response, but the PS3 market can be a bit trickier to get as many sales. Have any of the alterations to the original game been mainly because of this?
[SQS] When we started the project, we always wanted to give the game a strong arcade feeling. Though the development started on PC, we implemented a lot of console-like characteristics. The PC edition for example starts right away from the disc, without the need of any installation. Also there’s only a very limited options menu and the game itself plays very console-like. So right from start we felt that Soldner-X would probably fit even better on console, that’s when we decided to port the game to Playstation 3.
On the one hand we already had a lot of new ideas during the development of the PC version, some of which finally did not fit into the timetable and on the other hand we also received feedback once the game got released.
We knew that it will take us some time to get into the whole PS3 environment, so we took advantage of the additional time we had and decided on improving the PS3 release. Development is almost complete at this stage and we are very satisfied with our final result, there have been really a lot of changes. As the PS3 version will be released on PSN, it will receive a much lower price tag compared to the disc-based PC product, so hopefully it will actually trigger a lot more sales. [smiles]
