[GDN] If so, why are they more susceptible than someone who cheers on an actual defensive player to tackle the player who eventually breaks his leg?
[Block] Cheering, in a crowd, with friends, outside, in a social setting...you get the idea. Of course, if they are cheering, drinking beer...well, other issues come up.
[GDN] Do you think there is enough evidence to prove violent games makes us more likely to commit violent crimes? If not, how do you think it will be until there is?
[Block] No. I think the data is quite unclear. If violent games lead to violence, I believe the relationship is weak. However, I do think the immersion into the Virtual, usually through gaming, does lead to serious pathology in some people. That includes violence, towards themselves or others. I also believe that angry people tend to find angry games to play. That is not to say that everyone who plays Doom or some such game is angry -- just that those with issues will select those types of games, preferentially (correlation but not causality, with regards to violent media exposure).
