Verbatim Rapier V1 Review

Posted by Christophor Rick, 352 days ago

The Teflon feet do make the mouse glide smoothly over the mouse mat or pad. They are switchable as well as the cover has small feet on one side and one large one on the other. The unit feels sturdy in the hand though the left mouse button has a slightly flimsy feel to it. The rubberized grip on the side is nice and really, the blue lights are cool. Now I know that last bit has got nothing to do with performance, but we all like pretty lights right? The cable is thick and somewhat inflexible but was easy enough to push out of the way so that it didn’t disturb the movement of the mouse.

The mouse itself isn’t flashy with its shiny gray and black rubber finish. However, the mouse wheel lights up blue (as I said) as does the dpi indicator which tells you which of the four dpi settings that you’re currently using.

Finally, the software comes on CD and is not downloadable from the web. So if you’ve got say a UMPC that you want to use it on, you’ll be able to use the basic features of the mouse but that’s it.

Honestly though, you’d be buying this mouse for your main gaming machine and I’m sure it will have a CD drive. The software for the mouse is, of course, only for Windows. So Mac and Linux gamers are out in the cold.

Admittedly, after a few days of using the mouse I was able to adapt my hand to it with only a modicum of discomfort. In my eyes this mouse would be perfect for someone with smaller hands that wants a high-performance gaming mouse with some programmable buttons. Someone with medium to large-sized hands might want to take a look at their other offering, the Rapier V2 which I will be reviewing next week.

Our Rating for Verbatim Rapier V1 Review
7.0
Feel
A little small for average hands, mild discomfort due to size. Fairly light even with all the weights in place.
7.5
Usability
Weight seems too light even when fully loaded. Some buttons hard to use due to placement.
7.5
Overall
Not a bad price for a gaming mouse. Definitely a good buy for those gamers (children or women especially) who’ve got smaller hands
