E3 09: EA to Announce a MMA Title

In late February, 1Up reported that EA Sports was throwing around the idea of a MMA title. We have word that this title will be acknowledged later today during their press conference.

The title at the moment is EA Sports MMA, and know it will be available on the PS 3 and Xbox 360. I can’t seem to get any further details at the moment, but I’ll let you know what I hear at the press conference this afternoon.

As we all know, THQ owns the rights to Ultimate Fighting Champions (UFC) so as to whether EA will hold a license from another company, we are not sure. There are plenty of other companies out there, such as M-1, Elite XC, and Pride.

EA Sports MMA is being developed by EA Tiburon.

Wade, what are you talking about?

"There are plenty of other companies out there, such as M-1, Elite XC, and Pride."

Lorenzo Fertitta bought out PRIDE in 2007. Essentially, the same man who is a majority owner of the UFC now owns the entire Pride library and all likeliness of the brand. There is no such thing as a "Pride fighter" anymore...they are either in the UFC, Japan or other orgs.

There is no Pride anymore, and Fertitta wouldn’t loan out the brand name to another company. Pride is effectively dead.

Elite XC’s parent company Pro-Elite filed for bankrupcy and their fighter contracts were acquired by Strikeforce...there is no more Elite-XC.

I stand corrected, and appreciate the input. Though it seems at this point there is no licensing involved. It would be kewl to see this turn into a online multiplayer, with stats, etc. If they put in the work on this as they have been with the other sports titles, this could turn into a very solid game
