A report has revealed the Nintendo Wii is the most reliable console on the market, with just 2.7% of users returning their machine due to a system failure.

The study, published by warranty provider SquareTrade, took into account the three main console platforms and said that the Xbox 360 was the worse offender, with 23.7% of users sending their console back.

PlayStation 3 was in the middle of its rivals, with 10% of owners saying they had to send their machine back to the manufacturer.

The report added that Xbox 360’s poor showing was not just down to its well publicized ’Red Ring Of Death’ hardware issue as 11.7% of respondents said they had encountered different problems.

SqaureTrade said they randomly selected 16,000 game console users to take part in the report.

I am Jack’s not the least bit surprised. For all the real faults and criticism one can level at Nintendo, "making bad hardware" isn’t one of them. Almost every system I own from them still works to at least some extent, and I know friends who often semi-joke about "When the apocalypse comes, I’m building armor out of Nintendo systems." Somehow I suspect it might work out okay for them.
