Gravity Sling has just been approved by Apple and should now be available in the App Store. Gravity Sling is an inertia based puzzle game where the player needs to use the gravity of nearby planets to sling the astronaut through space and safely back to the space shuttle. Scoring is based on the distance the astronaut travels before reaching the space shuttle, with more points awarded for a longer path.
This is one of the first games to solely take advantage of Apple’s new policy of allowing In App Purchase from within free applications. The free download offers 15 levels of gameplay, but instead of requiring a separate purchase to play the full version, players can instead purchase an additional level pack of 30 more levels from within the game for just $.99. They believe this provides a better experience for the player, and hope that players will agree!
Gravity Sling also features full Open Feint integration with leaderboards for every level as well as 15 achievements to unlock through gameplay.
Gravity Sling was initially created as part of the 12-hour iPhone Game Jam held at the 360iDev conference in September. It is the result of a collaboration between Riptide Games, Pyromonkey Productions, Spatial Reasoning, Crucial Games and NoiseBuffet. All Denver-based iPhone developers.
Gravity Sling will be coming to the webOS platform (Palm Pre and Palm Pixi) as well. Development of this version is well underway and the devs hope to have more information on its progress soon.
Also in progress is the first update to the iPhone version which they hope to release soon. In addition to more levels, this update should add movable planets for a much greater challenge in gameplay. Also planned, but likely not in the first update is access to our level building tools so players can create and share their own levels.
