Voltron Never Had a Video Game, Until Now

Can you believe that Voltron has been around for almost 25 years and to this day has never had a video game? Thatís just craziness if you look at how many of Voltronís peers have had video games or at least have shown up as characters in them. Well, the big guyís drought of naught of about to end because Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is bringing him to...the small screen. Hey, we all have to start somewhere right?

Voltron is headed to mobile phones, including the iPhone as part of the 25-year-anniversary of the animated series. His first ever video game and the platform would be so small to him he might step on it and never notice. Launching in December on wireless carriers nationwide (US), the mobile game features characters from the retro series in their quest to defend the universe.

Mobile gamers will play out their own Voltron adventures, through 30 levels and 6 acts, all in the palm of their hands. Featuring isometric gameplay, gamers command robot lions to traverse the galaxy and take on King Zarkon’s evil droid armies. As players travel through the game, they form their lions into the giant robot Voltron to take on the more menacing Robeasts in traditional 2D fighting style using game weapons such as the Lion Saber, Blazing Sword or Argon Force Field.

For gamers who want the most-enhanced Voltron experience, the iPhone version of the game features touchscreen controls, additional Robeasts and visual effects, streaming video and audio from the television series and a Facebook Achievement System, where gamers can post their conquests directly to Facebook.

Voltron will be available to Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Boost, Alltel and US Cellular subscribers, as well as iPhone and iPod Touch users. The game will retail between $2.99 and $9.99, depending on the wireless carrier.  For more information about Voltron visit www.voltron.com and for more info on Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s mobile game lineup, please visit http://www.sonypictures.com/mobile/.

Now Iíve inquired as to why there is such a massive price fluctuation and am awaiting word. But if you were to extrapolate that to a console game the versions would range from $30 to $65 dollars which just doesnít seem right to me. Iím guessing the enhanced iPhone version will be the $9.99 and the less interesting handsets will get the cheaper version (along with lower graphics and game experience).
