Pocket God to Become Comic Book

Ape Entertainment today announced a new licensing agreement with Bolt Creative, producers of Pocket God, the best selling iPhone app of all-time, to create a series of comic books based on the game.

Pocket God is a sadistic, episodic-based app that allows users to control the lives of a group of energetic pygmy islanders. Created by Dave Castelnuovo and Allan Dye, founders of Bolt Creative, Pocket God has consistently maintained a spot in the "Top 10" games in the iTunes App Store and currently holds the #15 position (as of 2/9/10). Having been downloaded over 2.1 million times since release, the success of Pocket God comes from a combination of endearing characters, unique art style and an incredibly fanatical community of followers.

With plans to produce a full color, four issue mini-series based on the game, the publisher will release a digital version through iVerse Media, a digital distribution partner of Ape Entertainment. A print version will then be made available to the comic book marketplace shortly thereafter, featuring previously-unreleased content. A collected trade paperback is also anticipated.

"We are extremely excited to be working with Bolt Creative to bring Pocket God into the comic book space,” says Ape Co-Publisher Brent E. Erwin. “Our goal is to expose some of the 2.1 million Pocket God fans to the world of comics, and conversely introduce comic book fans to the world of Pocket God with this fun and exciting endeavor."

"A comic book series is a natural extension of the Pocket God brand," noted Dave Castelnuovo, CEO of Bolt Creative. "Ape Entertainment is the perfect partner to help bring our island to book form."

With the addition of app enhancements included in the digital downloads of the comics to assist consumers in locating their nearest comic book retailer, Ape hopes that Pocket God will inspire new readers to discover the exciting world of comics through their local comic book shops.
