Massive Alan Wake Asset Drop
A massive load of assets dropped in our laps today on the upcoming action thriller Alan Wake for the Xbox 360. So we had to immediately drop what we were doing and get them up on the site for you.
The Story
In Alan Wake Darkness becomes the thing to avoid as darkness equals terror and danger. At TGS Remedy showed off a piece of gameplay where the tables were turned and light became Wake’s enemy, this is an exception that makes the rule. The local Brightfalls deputies as well as the FBI are after Wake, Wake needs to stay in stealth and avoid their light to escape, he has no flashlight and no gun.
Wake fleeing from the FBI, avoiding the light.
In Alan Wake there is an array of light based weapons such as the flaregun. Before a player can do any damage on an enemy taken over by the dark presence he must first remove the protecting dark presence away using his light. After the dark presence is removed the taken are still a threat, therefore conventional weapons are essential to finish them off. The flaregun is one of the few weapons that can both destroy the dark presence and kill an enemy at once.
In Alan Wake the player can utilize light sources within the environment itself to tactically progress. Here the headlights of a car are used to burn the dark presence away and ram the enemies down. In Alan Wake there are a variety of vehicles at the players disposal.
The vast supporting cast around Wake himself play important roles within the story. Some have ulterior motives and reasons for being in Brightfalls. At times NPC’s also play an important role during combat.
The night and day cycle are all part of the simulation. As Wake’s world slides further into a nightmare night falls bringing out the dark presence. Here Wake is at his most vulnerable state and finding light becomes an objective to survive.
The dark presence has the ability to take over machines and vehicles, inanimate object and the environment itself, turning them violently against Wake like that of a poltergeist. The strength of light capable of defeating them is dependent on the size of object.
Wake torches the dark presence using a flashlight. There are a variety of flashlights in the game and against bigger enemies the player may need to man a light turret or find other such powerful light sources to defeat enemies.
An object possessed by the dark presence rising malevolently, it can take on all shapes and sizes and attack eccentrically. The player needs to dodge there attack and torch away the dark presence to destroy it.
Finding and creating safe havens of light is a fundamental part of survival in Alan Wake, and strategically utilizing the environment is integral. Here Wake has created a safe haven of light by starting a generator.
At times it’s better to run than to stay and fight and create a mobile safe haven of light to escape.
What Wake does during the daytime reflects importantly on what happens at night. The player will gather important parts of the story that will echo events that may happen later. Learning about a location during the daytime can be fundamental to the players survival at night
