Sony Announces NGP, Next Generation Portable (PSP2) - Details, Hardware Specs

Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.. today announced its next generation portable entertainment system (code name: NGP), which makes the ultimate experience in portable entertainment devices.

Sony Next Generation Portable NGP - PSP2

NGP will be making its debut at the end of 2011.

Key NGP features:

  • Multi-touch 5-inch organic light emitting display (OLED) as the front display
  • Multi-touch pad on the rear of the device
  • Dual analog sticks
  • Two cameras (front and rear)
  • Software titles on small, dedicated flash memory-based cards
  • Three motion sensors, gyroscope, accelerometer and electronic compass
  • Wi-Fi and 3G network connectivity
  • PlayStation Network access, including ““LiveArea™”, “Near” and “Activity” log features Trophy Support
  • NGP will be able to play PSP titles, minis, PS one classics, video and comics from the PlayStation Store.

NGP is designed to provide users unparalleled Interactive Entertainment, which is only possible on PlayStation. This new system offers a revolutionary combination of rich gameplay and social connectivity in the context of real world experience the power of the SCE from the entertainment system PSP  and PlayStation 3.

DNA-based deep in the PlayStation gaming experience, NGP is the perfect embodiment of that vision. With Wi-Fi connectivity and 3G along with other applications NGP allows users endless possibilities "meeting", "link", "discovery", "sharing" and "playing" with your friends wherever they are. Inside the device is behind a large number of features that enable real fun, the ultimate next generation of portable entertainment.

Stunning OLED and revolutionary user interface

NGP is equipped with a magnificent multi-touch 5-inch OLED (organic light emitting display). High-performance CPU / GPU in combination with OLED provides for both games and digital entertainment unusually rich graphics which could not be seen ever on portable entertainment devices. The new system is located at the rear of a unique multi-touch pad, which together with the front touch display allows users to control the game in three dimensions through the motions of the fingers’ touch, grab, draw, push and pull  and Dual Analog Sticks

Thanks to the success of the basic design philosophy for the PSP, NGP takes great oval design to fit comfortably into the hands of users. For the first time will be portable entertainment system features two analog sticks, allowing the arrival of a wide range of games on portable system.

LiveArea

Each game title for the NGP will contain an area called LiveArea , where users can share their passion and fun with other players. Users will be informed about the latest game from both the SCE and at the other publishers via PlayStation Network. In addition, NGP users will have access to the "Activity", which is constantly updated with results of other players who play the same game, leading to communication between users.

Near

SCE will also provide the new service NGP "destination location" as part of the basic functions using the PlayStation Network. The new service, called the NEAR specially developed for the NGP will be preloaded onto the system and enables users to find what their friends are playing around or playing. Users can meet new friends and their players virtually no matter what play by sharing information and games on it now, or across time zones and distance.

New gaming medium

NGP has a new gaming medium for game titles, a small flash card.Taking advantage of the flash memory card to hold the title game, including additional game content. SCE will be able to deliver in the future game cards with higher capacity, which allows developers to store more data on the card game yet for the richer games. 

NGP is also equipped with two cameras, front and rear, as well as three motion sensors, gyroscopes, accelerometers and electronic compass.All these resources are developed to serve the users to use the entertainment world style based on real life experience. 
PlayStation Suite (Suite PS), also announced today, will be closely linked to the NGP. The newly developed game content for mobile devices Android can be used in the NGP. This means that users will not have access to the latest sophisticated content, but also typical for the mobile market.

SCE significantly elevates towards the NGP date on the market as a portable entertainment platform for the next generation and will make great efforts to further expand the portable gaming market.
