Price Cut for PSP in Europe
The PSP is getting old, we all know that. The newer PSPGo is out there and the NGP is coming to unseat them both and take control of its domain. Sony Computer Entertainment Europe late last week cut the price of the PSP to €129.99 for Europe, not including the UK. Stating the favorable
exchange rate between the Euro and the Yen as the reason. However, the UK will not get a price cut and the unit remains £129.99 there.
The price shift brings the PSP in Europe makes it cheaper than they UK (buy about 15 GBP) but still more than the US ($187.50).
I imagine this is also an inventory clearing effort so that the NGP, when released later this year, will have room on the shelves and retailer support. Sony recently stated that the tragic earthquake and tsunami in Japan would not affect plans for the handheld’s launch in the fall.
