Player X Plays its Way to the Crystal Maze
Posted by Wade, 71 days ago May 14, 2008 16:43

Award-winning mobile media company Player X is co-publishing with Dynamo Games the mobile game for popular 1990s TV gameshow, The Crystal Maze.

Nominated for the best licence IP category in this year’s IMG Awards, Player X has exclusive rights in the UK and Ireland, and the game will be available to UK mobile gamers this month.

The game features the iconic presenter of the TV show Richard O’Brien who has endorsed the mobile game version of the show. "The Crystal Maze mobile game has all the best elements of the show and it’s great to see the final task is as frustratingly challenging in The Dome as it was for TV contestants," he said.

The single-player game replicates the many mini-game features and humour of the TV original and has already received several rave reviews. Mobile gamers need to collect crystals in 20 different mini-games spread over the four original zones; Aztec, Industrial, Medieval and Future, before trying to avoid beind trapped within the Crystal Dome.

"The Crystal Maze was a TV phenomenon in the UK and we’re confident it will make a similar impact in the mobile games space. This licence is a perfect fit with our raft of TV gameshow mobile games," said Tony Pearce, Player X CEO.

The news follows Player X’s 2008 ground-breaking deals as the exclusive aggregators for all of O2 and Virgin Mobile UK’s mobile games. The company’s efforts in the mobile games space were acknowledged last week when its Hollywood Hospital title was short-listed as Best Mobile Game at the prestigious 2008 Meffys.
