Before Uwe Boll’s video game-to-film conversion of Running With Scissors’ “Postal” franchise even opens in theaters across North America on May 23rd, it will have already attained certifiable cult status. Originally scorned by gamers as another in a string of Boll’s critically pummeled game-based movies, something unexpected occurred during the film’s editing cycle. The film’s outrageous 9-11-based opening sequence was released and it went viral. By the time the film opens in theaters, that clip will have been viewed by well over two million sets of eyes via YouTube.

“Outrageous! Unblievable! Insane!” were the uncharacteristically subdued reactions of RWS ringleader Vince Desi (who plays himself in the film) when asked to describe his emotions on the dawn of the film’s long-awaited theatrical debut in major North American cities, including Los Angeles, New York, Austin, Denver, Tucson, Culver City, Charleston (SC), Decatur and Riverdale (GA), San Francisco, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver. “I’m so freakin’ proud and thankful to all our fans around the world that have helped make POSTAL an international success story. We now join the ranks of Lara Croft, Doom and Mortal Kombat as a video game brand that has made the transition to a major motion picture. Long live the POSTAL franchise!”

In addition to its pre-credit sequence, earlier cuts of the entire film were previewed to totally unexpected rave reviews in cities including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and RWS’ home town of Tucson. From TV station/game site G4 to Michael J. Hein, the Director of the New York City Horror Film Festival (who called “Postal” “the funniest film of the year… hands down!”), audiences from Tribeca to Tucson have loved the movie—even POSTAL’s notoriously cranky creators.

From full frontal by famous funnyman Dave Foley to some of the most ribald, politically-wrong satire ever committed to film, director Boll’s heavy hand works perfectly in this mega-spoof that skewers everything and everyone, including Boll himself.
