Disney Grabs up UTV, Ignition Entertainment

It was announced today that Disney has gobbled up UTV, the parent company of Ignition Entertainment who published Deadly Premonition, Blacklight: Tango Down, and is working on Dragon`s Crown for PS3 and PS Vita currently. UTV True Games has Faxion Online among others.

Disney already held about half the outstanding shares of the company and has moved to aqcuire a controlling interest and the stock will be delisted so it can be incorporated into the giant mouse.

The main reason for the acquisition was to further Disney’s interests in India and UTV will be renamed Disney India and includes Indiagames a mobile gaming company in the country.

Disney sees the country as a massive growth target and part of their core demographic.

Late in June of last year Ignition Entertainment started laying off staff and closing development studios as UTV tried to position itself more as a publisher than a games developer.
