New York 3D 26, Chicago Chimera 25
New York 3D resumed its winning ways as the team narrowly defeated World Champion Chicago Chimera, with a 26-25 win in overtime last night. New York’s Cardell "Dave Cheppelle" Thomas took down 2007 MVP Jeremy "BlackMamba" Florence in an impressive 5-3 victory in Men’s Dead or Alive 4 (DOA4), Thomas’ first win of the season. Backed by an enthusiastic New York team following Thomas’ victory, 3D’s Matt "WiZaKoR" Wood handed Chicago’s Yfran "Eafra" Garcia his first loss as Wood won 4-3 in FIFA 08 during an overtime shootout. Chicago’s Counter-Strike: Source (CS:S) squad tried to make up for the losses in FIFA and DOA4 by coming out strong against New York’s CS:S squad. Despite Chicago being on game point for several rounds, 3D rallied a come back to take the CS:S game into overtime. Chicago eventually prevailed but were only able to gain one point on New York with the 10-9 win. Women’s DOA4 would determine the winner of the match, as New York’s Tanya "Coolsvilla" Underwood took on Marjorie "Kasumi Chan" Bartell. Despite losing 4-5, Underwood accumulated enough rounds to tie the overall team score 25-25. CGS rules dictate that in the event of a tie, one overtime round will be played in the final game to determine the winner of the match. An aggressive fight from Underwood gave New York the crucial one point in Women’s DOA4 that gave the team a 26-25 overtime victory over Chicago Chimera, elevating New York to a 6-1 record in the standings while the 2007 World Champions dropped to 2-4.
San Francisco Optx 22, Los Angeles Complexity 18
In the second match of the night, San Francisco Optx gained some ground on number one team, New York 3D, with a victory over winless Los Angeles Complexity. LA’s reputable CS:S squad gave the team a much needed early lead as they took down Optx’s CS:S squad 10-8. San Francisco’s Women’s DOA4 powerhouse, Vanessa Arteaga, made up for the CS:S loss by defeating Megan "belle" Ceder 5-1. Alessandro "Stermy" Avallone added to Arteaga’s win with a 1-0 victory for San Francisco in FIFA. Carl "Perfect Legend" White of Complexity brought the team back with a 5-3 win in Men’s DOA4. With only Forza Motorsport 2 remaining, LA needed one of their two racers, Javier "Chavisan" Gutierrez or CJ "GTO" Nelson to finish in first place during the race. However, Kevin "Sackamonjaro" Uribe of San Francisco moved into first position early in the race and was too quick for the Complexity racers to catch up. San Francisco handed Los Angeles their 7th straight loss in a 22-18 win, moving the 4-2 Optx team to a second place tie with Dallas Venom.
