Sony’s Recent Issues Continue
Posted by Wade "TNT" Hinkle, 67 days ago Jul 3, 2008 08:19

After Sony’ PS 3 Firmware v2.40 which has the long awaited trophies sytem created complaints about users reporting problems with their consoles. It seems that some users have blank screens when trying to play some games, including Metal Gear Solid 4 and system crashes.

Sony had this to say after they pulled the firmware offline,

"As has been reported on many gaming blogs and websites, we have temporarily taken Firmware v2.40 offline. We’ve received a limited number of calls from consumers experiencing an issue with installing the system software update on their PS3. While our consumer services department has seen a low volume of calls on this topic, we are committed to providing the PS3 community with XMB access features delivered in the v2.40 update. We are working diligently to isolate the problem for those few consumers and to identify a solution before we put the firmware back up."

Though some who have already had the firmware installed claim they haven’t had any issues at all.

Now it seems Sony also has to contend with a SQL injection attack on the US Playstation site. According to IT firm Sophos,

"Visiting the affected PlayStation site runs a script that pretends to do an online security scan of your computer, and presents a bogus warning message that your PC is infected with a variety of different pieces of malware. Users frightened by the scareware ’warnings’ might rush to spend money on useless software."

Though they also state that this isnt just an attack on Playstation, as this is spreading across the internet

"It is essential that all websites, especially when they are high profile like this or receiving a large level of traffic, have been properly hardened to prevent hackers from injecting malicious code on to what should be legitimate webpages," warned Sophos.
